This noble symbol has several names: Jerusalem Cross, Crusader's Cross and Five-fold Cross. It’s meaning is most widely interpreted as representing the five wounds of Christ. The smaller crosses symbolize the wounds on Jesus’ hands and feet, while the large central cross is the wound from the soldier’s spear.
Another interpretation is that the four smaller crosses in each of the quadrants of the larger cross represent the authors of the gospels – Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. Who helped spread the word of Jesus to the four corners of the world.
